What it is like
St. Augustine Beach is the middle ground: a proper little town with restaurants, a pier and shops, sitting on the ocean about twelve minutes from the historic district across the Bridge of Lions.
It is the most convenient base on this coast, and the prices reflect that. You are paying for the short drive into town and for being able to walk to somewhere that serves breakfast. Anastasia State Park sits at the northern end of the island.
Within the town, prices still vary a lot. Places on the lagoon or a block or two back from the sand cost meaningfully less than the oceanfront, for a walk of a couple of minutes more.
| Good for | First visits, and anyone who wants the beach and the old town in the same day without much driving. |
|---|---|
| Not for | Travellers chasing the lowest possible nightly rate. |
| Downtown | About 12 minutes by car |
