What it is like
North of the historic district the island gives way to ordinary Florida: residential streets, large wooded lots, and houses with land around them rather than neighbours through the wall.
Nothing here is walkable, so you will drive everywhere, and there is no beach at the end of the road. What you get instead is space, quiet, and a nightly rate well under what the same house would fetch three miles east.
Downtown is roughly twelve minutes away and the beaches about twenty, which makes this a practical base for a week of driving out to things rather than a sit-on-the-balcony holiday.
| Good for | Groups who want room and a small bill, and anyone happy to drive. |
|---|---|
| Not for | Anyone who wants to hear the sea. |
| Downtown | About 12 minutes by car |
